things to know about LOLER
- Employers must ensure that all tail lifts meet the requirements of Government Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
- It is the law that “Thorough Examinations” are carried out on tail lifts every 6 months by a “competent person”
- A “Thorough Examination” provides a report of a detailed examination into the overall condition of the tail lift
- The Health and Safety Executive can ask to see the “Thorough Examination Report” at any given time
- Failing to comply with LOLER carries penalties of substantial fines or imprisonment
- Weight tests or Service Reports are not the same as statutory “Thorough Examination” Reports
